F1 Race Car Concept

This is my first big project in Cinema4D. From the start, it has been simply an exercise in modeling and a study of modeling tools. I ended up looking at dozens of photos and cutaway drawings old and new F1 and F2 cars for reference.

The goal was to come up with with an alternative F1 car design, but with some limitations in mind: I wanted the car to have the general shape and proportions of those from the late 90s and early 2000s, while using a mix of mechanical components from older and newer cars, from other motor racing classes. The only element that I didn’t model in this build was the car seat, it was downloaded from Turbosquid. Rendered in Arnold in Cinema4D.

This was an interesting challenge: keeping the construction as functional as possible, making sure that few elements was added for the sake of aesthetics, while trying to make all parts work harmoniously in the overall design. At the time I was still new to 3D modelling, so I limited myself to poly modelling from primitives

Reference & Inspiration

Looking at dozens and dozens of images of Formula cars and go carts from different generations, really drew me into studying the designs of various mechanical components and construction elements. To me, the most beautiful thing about these designs are their exposed utilitarian nature.

The Process

Parts of this model had to be changed multiple times, in some places complexity was added while in others it was reduced after careful consideration.
